  Flatbed Scanner

Not all scanners are created equal for the OCR used by the Text Reader programs . Some flatbeds give less than perfect results when scanning. Some scanners are too slow, some only scan in black and white, and others just don't work well at all. Standard TWAIN type scanners will generally work with Freedom Scientific products.

Freedom Scientific recommends:
  • Paperport OneTouch 5300, 8100, and 8600
  • Epson Perfection 636U and 1200U
  • Canon FB 630Ui is a fast, compact USB scanner
  • Microtek scanners: Scanmaker X6EL, V6USL and V6UPL

Lernout & Hauspie recommends:
  • Epson 1200U (USB connection)
  • Visioneer PaperPort OneTouch
  • Hewlett Packard 5200 (discontinued)
  • Hewlett Packard 6200 (USB and SCSI connections)
  • Hewlett Packard 63200 (USB and SCSI connections)
