Filesharing Ruckus on Campus

Filed under: General — admin @ 3:36 am

Do you like file sharing? Do you like to swap music, games, movies and other files with your friends? Do you like to burn music to you CDs or transfer to your MP3 player? Then don’t use Ruckus, because it allows none of these things.

Yet Ruckus is being promoted as a valid alternative for those students living on campus that feel encouraged to share files. Who thought this one up? The RIAA, no doubt, who has been placing increasing pressure on campuses throughout the country to prevent the spread of the file sharing scourge that is blighting the country. Or something.

Offering Ruckus as an alternative to something like Ares is not only insulting, it’s also pointless. Would you choose a Ford over Ferrari? Maybe, but most others wouldn’t. This is as lame attempt as it gets when trying to stop ‘problem file sharing’. The only ones that think it’s a problem, interestingly, are those that stand to line their pockets (and those of their shareholders) if the ‘problem’ can be stopped.

If file sharing does need to be addressed, this is not the way.
