What’s the big deal with Acai?

December 15th, 2008 by admin

One of the hottest new things to hit the weight loss market as of late has been Acai. Acai, which is a native of brazil, is a berry that many of its supporters claim to help aid in weight loss.
There have been many weight loss products and supplements that have come and go with mixed results. Many have exaggerated results and usually don’t live up to the hype of their billing. Often this is due to the fact that not everyone reacts to everything the same way.
So what’s the big deal with Acai? First off it is a natural berry like cranberry that has been said to not only help aid in weight loss but in addition to this that it also helps lower blood pressure as well as lowering cholesterol. It is supposed to also have a lot of anti-oxidants that are conducive with a healthy body.
The thing that makes Acai so interesting is the way it is supposed to aid in natural weight loss. Unlike many of the weight loss supplements which are out there to help suppress appetite and hunger, Acai is supposed to be different. It is supposed to deal with weight loss in a different way.
The way it is supposed to aid in weight loss is that it is supposed to improve the body’s ability to burn calories. This would be likened to increasing your metabolism. An increase in the body’s ability to burn calories would ultimately require less of a workout to burn a similar amount of fat. This increased ability would naturally help you lose weight even if you just decided to do a couple of 5 minute exercises.
Now I don’t know about you but that sounds like a pretty good berry to me. Not only will it improve your blood pressure and lower your cholesterol it will also help you lose weight by stimulating your metabolism? Where do I sign up. Of course these claims do sound very gimmicky in nature and as such results will always be varied depending upon your consumption and caloric intake.
For instance you could not expect just to go out and drink a cup of the stuff and expect to see immediate results. You would actually need to go out there and do some actual exercise if you expect to see any real results. Another important key would be to make sure that you would eat a healthy and balanced meal. This is one of the crucial elements in weight loss.
So is Acai that magical formula that you can just take and expect to see wondrous results? In many cases the answer is a resounding no. Despite all of the hype associated with this product as a magical weight loss formula it is simply not that. If you do combine it with a balanced meal and exercise routine you might see an increased positive result from it though. The berry itself is very healthy and should promote your overall welfare, just don’t look at it as your magical cure.

Acai now marketed as a weight loss aid

December 15th, 2008 by admin

If you want solid evidence that Acai Products
are good for your body, then look at the villagers around the areas where Acai Berry
is harvested in Brazil. Situated deep in the rainforests of Brazil, the acai can be harvested twice a year from tall palm trees. Not only does the harvesting bring the local population a great deal of income, but it also makes up around 42% of their food intake every day.

Whilst many Westerners do not eat that much acai products, it is quickly becoming more and more popular as a tool to aid weight loss. Acai brings other benefits, too, and even if you’re not particularly interested in weight loss acai can help your body to combat the physical and mental effects of aging, as well as improving your immune system. Acai weight loss might not be for you, but surely these other facets of acai’s charm will not pass you by.

Of course while acai has never really been marketed as a benefit in weight loss, acai does have these benefits so it is only natural that they come to the fore — in this case on TV shows like Oprah Winfrey — as powerfully as they have done. Be assured: acai is going to be here for a long time to come.

With Pure Acai you get a concentrated hit of acai in powder form.

Sales of Pure Acai has undoubtedly been helped by the recent surge in interest in acai. This is interest is timely, because it was becoming clear that products like Pure Acai that have been on the market for a while have done a fantastic job but have not, until now, got the sales and recognition that they deserved. Now, with Oprah Winfrey on the case, Pure Acai has the best chance it has ever had to grab the market share it richly deserves.

The thing that brought acai to the attention of Ms. Winfrey was an excellent book published by Dr. Perricone of the University of Michigan State. In his book Perricone announced that the acai berry was his number 1 super food Quite an accolade. Winfrey picked up on this praise and featured the book — and the berry — on her show. And if you want something shown to the world it is a good idea to let Winfrey know. Dr. Perricone, his book and even the erstwhile humble acai berry have enjoyed attention never before imagined.

So it was that people started to realize the potential of products like Pure Acai as help for their diets. This approach has been endorsed by prominent figures across the world.

Do your body a favor and buy Acai!

November 27th, 2008 by Laura

Since the popularity of acai soared into the stratosphere — many thanks to Dr. Nicholas Perricone and Oprah Winfrey, amongst others, for that — I am constantly getting asked where to buy acai. The answer is simple: the same place that you are reading this article. It is easy to buy acai all over the web.

Actually I’m very pleased that acai has become so popular and the surge of people trying to buy acai means that more people are likely to let this most impressive of super foods to help them and enrich their diet. Not only is acai excellently tasty, but it is very, very good for your too. Because it is a super food you need less other foods complementing it to satisfy your dietary requirements on a day to day basis. If you decide to buy acai then you are doing yourself and your body a massive favor

Think about it like this: if you manage to take on board just 50g of acai, then that means you need 50g less of other foods. Not only that, but you’re also adding amino acids, essential fatty acids and antioxidants into your system. These are all wonderful reasons why you should strongly consider looking around to buy acai.

Acai supplements dont disrupt your life

November 20th, 2008 by Laura

If you have ever watched TV then you will know that Oprah Winfrey is a worldwide phenomenon. She is a heroine of the highest magnitude in the US, and is dearly loved the world over.

When Oprah reviews a book — on this occasion The Perricone Promise by eminent professor Dr. Nicholas Perricone — then the world sits and listens. Dr. Perricone rubs his hands together and watches his bank balance soar.

When Oprah reviews a book which in return reviews a number of high energy, highly nutritious fruits, and names — on this occasion the acai berry — then, again, the world sits up and listens. Producers of acai supplements, acai juices and acai puree all over the world rub their hands together: they know that their bank balances will soon be going the way of Dr. Perricone’s.

But all this success — financial and otherwise — is completely deserved for Dr. Perricone, and is long overdue for the producers of acai berry supplements and the like. The benefits of Acai supplements are a great product that is made from a great natural resource. Why shouldn’t they be celebrated
acai berry supplements benefit the best way to enable families to get the acai goodness into their diets: we would like to see the berries themselves over here, but the rapid degradation means that this is not going to happen!

Acai preserves can be transported much easier than berries

November 16th, 2008 by Laura

I am a mom of four and a wife of one, and I use acai preserves a lot in my home and in my cooking. Knowing that I am able to give my family acai really gives me a good feeling about life. We all deserve the best.

Acai is a wonder food that contains a lot of the goodness that your body needs to try and keep itself in good health. It contains amino acids, antioxidants, and essential omega fatty acids. Getting acai into your home and into you and your family’s system is easy now that distributors have started producing acai preserves.

I have heard people ask how they can use acai to make a tasty treat that everyone will love, and that will add some variety to the repertoire of the home cook. Fortunately with acai preserves that’s a fairly easy thing to do.

Spreading the acai preserves on toast is the simples solution, and this is a really tasty idea. Sometimes to add a little spice to the deserts I add acai preserves as a topping to ice cream. The kids love it because it tastes quite a lot like chocolate syrup — they think they’re getting chocolate but I know it’s healthy fruit!

Why is Acai Berry called a super food?

November 15th, 2008 by admin

The acai berry is a super food, everyone knows that. But what exactly is a super food? Why is a super food better for us than a normal food?

A super food is one that meets many of our dietary requirements with only a little bit of the food in question. With regards the acai berry the dietary requirements met are those of the amino acids, the antioxidants and the essential omega fatty acids: just a little bit of the acai berry can provide all your body needs in this area.

It is this excellent potency of the acai berry that makes it an excellent aid to those wishing to diet: an acai diet can mean that you don’t need to eat anywhere near as much, but will still managed to get the essential nutrients that your body needs to function.

The acai berry has been applauded by many sources as being the most potent of the super foods that we know about. Dr. Nicholas Perricone, professor of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine has, in his book The Perricone Promise, place the acai berry right at the top of his list of super foods. This is strong praise indeed for the little berry!

The dark truth about Monavie

November 11th, 2008 by Laura

Monavie is one of the distributors of the massively popular acai juice. Many people use Acai juice to keep healthy and fit, and it is becoming increasingly popular. But, to say that the Monavie brand is surrounded in controversy and criticism is to under play the hand dramatically; to say that Monavie has made some mistakes with its Monavie acai juice products is an understatement. Monavie’s main problem is the price, but there are other issues.

Actually, the product itself is quite tasty, attractively bottled, and probably good for you.  The primary problem is the price, along with some exaggeration of  its unproven benefits. Monavie is twice as expensive as its nearest rival,  Amazon Thunder, which is a superior alternative to Monavie acai juice but without steep price.

The quality issue is pretty easy to discover as well - just take a  look at the list of ingredients. Amazon Thunder is Acai Berry Puree, nothing else. Monavie is - Oops! Someone forgot to put the acai in Monavie!  Yes, Acai Berry is the 1st ingredient, but the majority of the product is actually all the other less expensive fruit juices.  And the acai used in Monavie is of the freeze dried variety - which destroys much of the antioxident properties and nutritional values in Acai Berry.

Monavie Ingredients

ACAI BERRY, ACEROLA, APRICOT, ARONIA, BANANA, BILBERRY, BLUEBERRY, CAMU CAMU, CRANBERRY, KIWI, LYCHEE FRUIT, NASHI PEAR, PASSION FRUIT, PEAR, POMEGRANATE, PRUNE, PURPLE GRAPE, WHITE GRAPE, WOLFBERRY (Goji)

In short,  the amount of actual Acai in Monavie is just too little. The only Acai juice on the market today that is 100% Acai, with no water or other fruit juices mixed in is Amazon Thunder

Amazon Thunder

With Amazon Thunder you know it’s not diluted as soon as you open the bottle and try to pour it out. I say “try” because its sometimes like pouring ketchup. It’s closer to a paste than a juice. This tells your right away you’ve got nothing but mashed acai berries. I must say, I found the taste a little strange at first, but am now totally addicted to it!

Acai juice is a better idea than the raw materials it comes from

November 9th, 2008 by Laura

I’m always eager to try new things, especially when those things offer to slow the physical effects of aging. It was with some anticipation, then, that I opened my first bottle of acai juice after seeing it praised so highly by Oprah and in the New York Times. Such high praise isn’t usually without warrant, I thought.

From my first taste I knew that the acai juice I held in my hand was good stuff. Not only does it taste healthy, it smells gorgeous too. Even if the promised health benefits weren’t so great I would probably carry on drinking it just for fun!

I am told that the acai juice I am drinking now — even as I type — comes from berries that are harvested in the Amazon basin in Brazil. The people that harvest the crop for my acai juice actually eat a lot of these little berries: reports state that it makes up 42% of their diet by weight! Wow!

I looked up some of the reasons why acai juice is so good for you and to be honest I was a little confused. I know that it provides some of the amino acids and anti oxidants that the body needs, though, and that sounds good enough for me.

Why you should consider the Acai diet?

November 9th, 2008 by Laura

Why Use Acai ?
I personally enjoy the Acai Berry because of it’s antioxidant properties. In this day and age of phytoestrogens, chemicals, pesticides, and other nasty environmental toxins, we can’t get enough antioxidants. Others swear by it as a weight loss aid and energy booster. Less proven, but also important, are the disease fighting properties that are being subscribed to the wonder berry. Whatever your reason for interest in trying Acai Berry products, below are the 2 most common forms that you will find outside of Brazil.

Acai Berry Supplements
Supplements are the most convenient way to get your Acai Berry. But beware – there are some unscrupulous sellers who push garbage and dissappear tomorrow. In particular, stay far away from the “Free Trial” offers. They say you only need to pay some nominal amount for shipping, like $3.95. But they get your credit card number, then keep shipping you more product at exhorbitant amounts like $89. They hide the fact you signed up for a subscription, and make it very hard to contact someone to cancel. A huge rip-off. So, which should you try? The best we can recommend right now is Acai Pure. This is a 100% acai berry product is not gummed up with fillers or additives. It is not loaded with accessory supplements for marketing purposes. AcaiPure includes only the highest grade Acai powder available anywhere on the planet. You can find numerous polls around the web that rank Acai Pure higher than most other acai berry products. Acai Pure is always ranked in the top 3 and is often rated #1.

Acai Juice or Drinks
You can get acai juice products from various MLM companies like Monavie. You can also go to your local health food store, GNC, Vitamin World, etc… and get an acai juice product. Unfortunately, these Acai berry juice supplements are notoriously full of sugar or are diluted with other fruit juices so much that they are not even worth taking for the health benefits. The only one I have been able to find that is 100% Acai, with no water or other fruit juices mixed in is Amazon Thunder.

With Amazonthunder, you know it’s not diluted as soon as you open the bottle and try to pour it out. I say “try” because its sometimes like pouring ketchup - it’s closer to a paste than a juice. Unlike every other “Acai Juice” on the market, it’s nothing but mashed acai berries. I must say, I found the taste a little strange at first, but am now totally addicted to it! Amazonthunder is by far the most concentrated, undiluted, and intact form of Acai, and the best way to get all the nutritional benefits from this wonder berry. The only problem is the convenience factor is not as great as a supplement form like capsules.

Everyone listens to Oprah, right? I mean everyone knows that she knows what she is talking about, and therefore her advice is sound. This is why when she tells us that the acai diet – a special diet that includes the world’s favourite super food, the acai berry – is good, then we really should start to pay attention.Oprah has high praise for the acai diet and the acai berry in particular, calling it her no.1 super food. She said “This little berry is one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world”. She’s not kidding. The renowned Dr. Perricone, author of “The Perricone Promise” names the acai fruit as his no.1 Super Food. The acai diet has even appeared in the New York Times; the diet winning high praise from the publication. It seems that experts all over the world are eager to help us to realise the benefits of the acai berry and the acai diet. If the praise all appears a little too gushing then consider this: the acai berry has 10 times the anti-oxidants as red grapes, and twice as much as blue berries, widely hailed as a super food themselves. This really is a powerful fruit with a huge potential in a controlled acai diet.

Lose Weight with Acai Berry
Acai can be a great weight loss aid. The berry’s incredibly high levels of essential fatty acids, fiber, phytosterols and amino acids work together to help your body burn fat more efficiently, process food more quickly and shed the unwanted pounds that you’d like to lose.

Antioxidants
Acai berries have far more antioxidants than any other fruit – three times as much as blueberries, which is second. Besides that, the nutrients in acai berry help many other diseases, from diabetes to arthritis to blood clotting. Here are some of the ways adding Acai Berry to your diet may help you:

    Boosts energy levels
    Improves digestive function
    Provides many important vitamins
    Minimizes inflammation
    Is an extremely powerful antioxidant
Acai has high levels of fiber
    Cleanses and detoxifies the body
    Strengthens the immune system
    Fights cancerous cells
    Helps maintain healthy heart function
    Prevents atherosclerosis
    Promotes healthier and younger-looking skin
    Helps alleviate diabetes
    Slows down the aging process
    Improves circulation
    Improves mental clarity/focus
    Enhances sexual desire and performance
    Contains several important minerals
    Normalizes and regulates cholesterol levels
    Promotes sound sleep
    Enhances visual acuity

Fatty Acids
Did you know Acai Berries are the only fruit to contain appreciable amounts of fatty acids? Don’t be fooled by the terminology though, some fatty acids are good. Our bodies need essential fatty acids to maintain proper health. We are unable to produce Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. It just so happens that these fatty acids are plentiful in Acai berries. Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids help increase your metabolism. The are also very effective at inhibiting hunger. Both of which helps you to lose weight more quickly. In providing these Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, the Acai berry can help you shed those extra pounds.

Fiber
Acai contains a generous amount of fiber, which helps your digestive tract to move food through your body. In this way, excess food is eliminated rather than absorbed and turned into fat. Similar to the fatty acids mentioned above, fiber also helps to satiate hunger.

Amino Acids
The Acai berry is rich with amino acids, which are widely known as the building blocks of protein. Your muscles need these amino acids in order to operate properly, and to regenerate from resistance training trauma or other exercise stress. Since the fatty acids in Acai increase your metabolism and the amino acids build your muscles, we can say that the nutrients in Acai berries help your body burn fat and energy more efficiently, causing you to lose weight.

Phytosterols
These building blocks of cell membranes help fortify your digestive tract, moving waste materials out and absorbing nutrients more efficiently. Acai berries are an excellent source of Phytosterols.

Disease Fighting and other Health Benefits
Published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, a study showed that extracts from acai berries triggered a self-destruct response in up to 86 percent of leukemia cells tested.

Acai berries are already considered one of the richest fruit sources of antioxidants,” said Stephen Talcott, an assistant professor with UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. “This study was an important step toward learning what people may gain from using beverages, dietary supplements or other products made with the berries.
